It's Personal

Dr. Hanif Jamal

As I made my rounds this morning, I was reminded of how much has already changed since we first opened the doors of Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH).

A year ago, there were 5 hospitalists caring for patients on our two medical floors.  Today, there are 18 of us looking after about 400 in-patients a day.

Since the opening patient volumes have increased dramatically.  The growth was anticipated, we just didn’t expect it to happen so soon.

Additional funding from the Government last year helped us respond to this growth but it is only part of the solution.

You see, the increase in patient volumes has also triggered an urgent need for new equipment – essential tools my colleagues and I rely on every single day to provide care for you, your loved ones, friends and neighbours.

As you can imagine, the growth we’re experiencing doesn’t just impact one or two services but all clinical and support services throughout our hospital.

Here are some of the urgently needed items your gift today could help purchase:

·         Three Stretchers for the Emergency Department – Currently in high demand, stretchers help move patients safely and comfortably to other areas of the hospital in a hurry for diagnosis and treatment. Cost: $5,000 each.

·         Anesthesia Cardiac Monitor – This device monitors the heart health of some of our sickest patients during complex surgeries. Cost: $26,000 each.

·         Three IV Infusion Pumps – Every patient in need of an IV benefits from an infusion pump which provides the controlled delivery of fluids, nutrients and medications. Cost: $3,500 each.

·         Two Sleeper Chair Sofas – A family member can be the most important part of healing for a patient.  We want to ensure their needs are addressed so they are in the best position to help their loved one. Cost: $2,000 each.

It’s critical that we get this equipment as quickly as possible so we can care for more patients.
After all, the comfort, safety and well-being of those in our care is our number one priority. We’re committed to doing everything in our power to save lives and give our patients their best chance to recover and go home to their grateful families.

I believe it’s a commitment you share.  Your support has improved my ability to provide so many resources and treatment options to my patients.

Thanks to you, I can care for my patients in a state-of-the-art facility filled with the tools I need to do my job in a way I’ve always hoped I could.

Please send your generous gift today and help us buy the urgent equipment every patient at OTMH will depend on one day, maybe even someone you know and love.

Yours sincerely,
