Taking Heart Health to New Heights

Your heart matters to us, especially when it comes to keeping it healthy.

At Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, we reach past the boundaries of cardiac care to deliver the latest, most advanced treatments and diagnostic services to our cardiac patients.

This includes coronary computed tomographic angiography (CTA), a minimally invasive cardiac imaging test that is rapidly gaining adoption in routine medical practice. Using CT technology, a CTA takes high-resolution, 3-dimensional pictures of a patient’s moving heart and arteries. These images enable physicians to evaluate the heart and diagnose whether a patient has coronary artery disease.

“With a coronary CTA, we can determine if a patient has any disease in their coronary arteries and whether they might need further coronary artery related intervention.  We can also give patients with normal results the reassurance that their symptoms are definitely not related to their heart,” said Dr. Saulius Valadka, Chief of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiologist.

As a minimally invasive procedure, there are many benefits to using CTA. It can be performed much faster than other more invasive cardiac testing with potentially less risk, discomfort, and decreased recovery time for patients.

At OTMH, our coronary CT angiography program is expanding as the technological advancements and research in this area continue to progress. “Over the last few years, we’ve gone from performing three to five studies a few times per month to ten studies every week,” said Dr. Valadka. “This is an exciting test that is changing the way we diagnose coronary artery disease and significantly altering our approach to patient care.”
