OTMH Candlelight Ball Raises Record $1 Million

Posted: November 10, 2011

The annual OTMH Candlelight Ball reached a record height on Saturday, November 5, 2011 by raising $1 million net to help fund essential equipment for Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.

More than half that a mount was raised during Cause-Within-a-Cause, a fast-paced fundraising activity that began with Bruce Galloway, Chairman of the Board of the Directors for the Oakville Hospital Foundation, committing to a matching pledge of $250,000. Gala patrons quickly reached and exceeded the $250,000 goal, raising the necessary funds to purchase the entire annual equipment needs for the surgical department.

Additional money was raised throughout the evening through a live and silent auction and several contests. Proceeds from these activites will purchase a number of high-priority items for the hospital including a digital ultrasound system for the Rehabilitation and Geriatrics departmen, a biphasic defribillator for the Emergency department, a motorized rotary microtome for the Laboratory and six new ECG machines for the Cardiology department.

"With an event of this magnitude there are many people to thank," said Tina Triano, CEO of the Oakville Hospital Foundation. "Thanks to Kathy Mundy and her Gala Committee and of course thank you to our Chairman Bruce Galloway for a spectacular matching gift that catapuled us well past any record we previously held for this event."
