Brookfield Foundation Gives $1 Million to Hospital Campaign

OAKVILLE (December 19, 2012) – The Oakville Hospital Foundation didn't have to wait for Christmas to get a big present thanks to a $1 million donation from the Brookfield Foundation.
 
“Over the years Brookfield and its officers and associates have contributed more than $12 million to the Oakville Hospital, including this most recent pledge of $1 million,” said Tina Triano, CEO of the Oakville Hospital Foundation. “We thank Brookfield and all these individuals for their generosity and continued support of Oakville's Hospital.  We are also pleased to name in honour of the late Peter Bronfman, the founding shareholder of Brookfield and a major philanthropist, the Emergency Department in the new Oakville Hospital.”
 
The Emergency Department provides healthcare solutions 24/7 to community residents of all ages, ranging from first aid to emergency procedures. In the new Hospital, emergency visits are anticipated to grow from 52,000 currently to nearly double that within ten years of opening.
 
The Emergency Department in the new Oakville Hospital will be organized in a series of zones – a rapid assessment zone, urgent/resuscitation, urgent/acute, minor treatment and a new four-bed psychiatric zone for patients dealing with a mental health crisis. As the most prominent area of the Hospital, it will have main entrances fronting Dundas and the new, yet to be named, western boundary road and be the cornerstone of the Halton Region’s emergency preparedness plans. Key to those plans will be an on-site helipad and an ambulance garage with capacity to repurpose to a full decontamination unit as the need arises, for example in the case of a chemical spill or an airborne infectious disease such as SARS.
