Cancer Clinic Officially Opens at OTMH

Posted: September 22, 2016
On Thursday, September 22, Halton Healthcare officially opened its Cancer Care Clinic at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH).

The facility began treating patients in February and has already cared for hundreds of Halton residents with cancer. The Cancer Care Clinic at OTMH enables local residents to remain in their community instead of seeking treatment outside of Oakville. The new Clinic provides patient assessment, teaching, counseling, information resources, chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, procedures and clinical trials for oncology patients.

The official opening acknowledged Oakville Hospital Foundation donors Betty Birmingham and her late husband Bruce Birmingham for their contributions to the Cancer Care Clinic. The couple donated $3.5 million to the Oakville Hospital Foundation in 2010 and the clinic is named in their honour.

The Birminghams know from personal experience how vital it is for residents to have access to life saving cancer treatments close to home. Their transformational gifts have been a catalyst for life saving procedures that followed the early diagnosis of cancer and the driving force for making cancer care available in our community.
