OTMH Candlelight Ball Raises a Record $1.35 Million

OAKVILLE, November 9, 2012 – The annual OTMH Candlelight Ball, presented by Barrington’s Fine Outerwear and Murron’s Cabinetree, reached a record height this year by raising $1.35 million net to help fund essential equipment for Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
The “Over the Top” Gala lived up to its name with more than $435,000 raised during Cause-within-a-Cause, a fast-paced fundraising activity. An anonymous donor pledged to match all cause gifts that evening to fund the equipment needs of the surgical department. The long list of new, technologically advanced pieces of equipment –equipment surgeons need right now at OTMH and will move to the new hospital – carries a price tag of $ 1 million.
Additional funds were raised throughout the evening through a live and silent auction and several contests. Proceeds from these activities raised funds to purchase a number of high-priority items for the hospital including, 16 ceiling lift bundles, 6 new vital signs monitors, 4 therapeutic tilt and recline wheelchairs and an infant resuscitation warmer unit.
The circus-themed event included a mouth-watering culinary experience presented by celebrity chef Michael Bonacini, of Oliver & Bonacini Restaurants along with his chef team, Matthew Foote of Oliver & Bonacini CafĂ© Grill, Oakville and Jamie Meireles of O&B Events.  For the fourth year in a row, guests enjoyed an exquisite multi-course menu created exclusively for the annual OTMH Candlelight Ball. “We were honoured to have contributed in our own way; great food and wine is often a catalyst for even greater ideas and conversation about the future of OTMH,” said Chef Michael Bonacini, co-owner, Oliver & Bonacini Restaurants.
“With an event of this magnitude there are so many people to thank including our gala patrons, donors, and sponsors,” said Tina Triano, CEO of the Oakville Hospital Foundation. “We especially would like to thank and recognize our gala co-chairs Kathy Mundy and Christie Henderson and their superb committee. This remarkable group of 31 individuals contributed many hundreds of volunteer hours throughout this past year to make our Candlelight Ball an over the top success.”
Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, a matching donor, and the 636 attendees this year, Oakville residents will continue to have access to top-quality healthcare services, close to home.
