TD Presents $600,000 Gift to Enhance Patient Centered Care at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital

April 2, 2013 – Oakville, ON -  Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) was presented with $600,000 from TD Bank Group which will support the transition to the new Oakville Hospital and specific ongoing education for the healthcare teams.
 
“The needs and demand on healthcare continue to increase and evolve, and this donation from TD will help Halton Healthcare Services provide education programs for our healthcare teams focusing on two areas of importance,” said Sylvia Rodgers, Chief Nursing Officer of Halton Healthcare Services (HHS). “In addition, financial support for individual health professionals pursuing formal continuing education will help us retain and attract the best and ensure we continue to offer exceptional patient care.”
 
With an aging patient population, a portion of TD’s gift will help facilitate ongoing education and learning to assist healthcare practitioners to develop expertise in meeting the complex needs of the older patient population. HHS is actively involved in a provincial Senior Friendly Hospital Initiative focused on enhancing the quality and safety of care for elderly patients including delirium assessment and management and the prevention of functional decline. As well, we will be able to build expertise and evolve our ability to provide patient and family centered care with the goal of actively changing the culture related to patient care.

In addition, TD’s gift will also address the need to continually advance the skills and knowledge of individual nurses and other allied health professionals by providing tuition support for formal education programs. As healthcare practitioners with Halton Healthcare Services continue to advance their careers, applicants who are interested in acquiring further education can apply for funding support for programs such as graduate degrees and nurse practitioner programs.
 
About Oakville Hospital Foundation
The Oakville Hospital Foundation is partnering with the community to fund essential equipment for Oakville’s Hospital to enable high quality patient care. Generous support from the community is needed to help the Foundation achieve its $60 million campaign goal to equip the state-of-the-art health care facility scheduled to open in December 2015.
