Halton Healthcare Given Green Light to Build New Capacity
- Nov 10, 2025

November 7, 2025 (Halton Region, ON) – Following the Fall Economic Statement, Halton Healthcare is pleased that new funding has been announced to expand hospital capacity across the region, adding up to 123 acute care beds within two years at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) and Milton District Hospital (MDH).
The project will directly support patients and families by improving access to timely, high-quality hospital care. The project includes building out the shelled space at OTMH, strengthening hospital capacity across the region. Shelled space is unfinished space that was intentionally part of the hospital’s build to allow us to grow with our communities and patient needs. It will also support new capacity at MDH and create jobs and employment opportunities both throughout the construction phase and for clinical and support staff once the new space is operational.
Across Ontario, hospitals are caring for more patients than ever before. In Halton Region, the number of residents aged 75 and older is expected to double in the next two decades, increasing the demand for hospital-based care. This expansion ensures that Halton Healthcare is ready to meet that need with completion possible within the next two years.
The new spaces are designed around patients – offering modern, private and semi-private rooms that promote comfort, dignity, and recovery. Because construction will occur within existing hospital infrastructure, patients will benefit from faster timelines, minimal disruption, and maximum value.
This initiative is designed not only to meet the needs of our community, but also to support patients across the regional health system. This announcement reflects Halton Healthcare’s commitment to delivering the right care, in the right place, at the right time – today and for years to come.
