Redefining Cancer Care in our community

Redefining Cancer Care in our community

The Big C is a campaign that stands for so much more than cancer. At its heart, it’s about what matters most to you and the impact we can make together on healthcare in our community.

What does C mean to you?

For some, C is about Courage—the courage of those facing a cancer diagnosis and the strength of their loved ones.

For others, it’s about Compassion—the incredible support from our community during the tough times. Or the deep empathy of OTMH caregivers who dedicate themselves to the well-being of each patient, treating them with expertise and genuine kindness.

Or maybe, C represents Care—the advanced, life-saving treatments our hospital delivers right here, close to home.

Whatever C means to you, your support makes it possible.

The urgent need for Cancer Care in Halton

The urgent need for Cancer Care in Halton

Halton is one of the fastest-growing regions in Ontario, with a projected 60% population increase over the next 25 years. This growth brings a surge in demand for cancer care, especially as our population ages and faces more complex health challenges.

Adding to this urgency is a troubling trend: younger people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s are being diagnosed with highly aggressive cancers. This reinforces the need for accessible, specialized cancer care in our community.

Your impact

Through The Big C campaign, we’re focused on several critical areas to ensure that everyone in Halton has access to the best possible care:

  • Advanced Diagnostic ImagingAdvanced Diagnostic Imaging

With your help, we are replacing all of our diagnostic imaging equipment over the next decade. This essential investment will improve precision, reduce wait times, and bring the most advanced care closer to home.

  • Navigator ProgramsNavigator Programs

We’re expanding our navigator programs, including the launch of a Lung Diagnostic Assessment Program (DAP) this year. These programs streamline the journey from suspicion and diagnosis to treatment, ensuring timely and effective care.

  • Surgical and Survivorship InnovationsSurgical and Survivorship Innovations

New surgical technologies and innovations, like immediate breast reconstruction and restorative areola tattooing, are enhancing patient experiences and outcomes from surgery to survivorship.

  • Expanded Chemotherapy ServicesExpanded Chemotherapy Services

This fall, we’re adding more chemotherapy chairs to meet growing demand. Future renovations will create even more space, ensuring every patient receives the care they need when they need it.
