Clinical trials are often something patients travel to find. At Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, thanks to donor support, they’re happening right here.

Halton Healthcare’s Clinical Research Program had a landmark year, with 27 active studies underway in areas that touch nearly every patient journey: cancer care, heart health, emergency medicine, kidney care, critical care, and more. For patients, this means access to emerging therapies and new treatment options without leaving the hospital they already know and trust.

Cardiovascular research is a standout. OTMH patients are participating in international trials exploring new treatments for heart failure and stroke prevention, including a global Phase III study of a new anticoagulation therapy. Patients here are among the first to access these options, while their participation helps shape the future of heart care worldwide.

The program is also looking ahead. New work in data science and predictive analytics is helping teams understand patient outcomes and spot opportunities to improve care before problems arise. It’s the groundwork for care that is more personal and more proactive.

Behind every study is a team: physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and researchers working side by side, along with partnerships that are training the next generation of clinician-researchers.

Your donations toward clinical support helped make OTMH one of Ontario’s leading community-based research programs. Every study brings new answers, and every answer brings better care to the people who need it, close to home.
