Halton Healthcare's Better Care Story

The first week of August is World Breastfeeding Week (WBW)! Each year WBW is celebrated as a way to empower and support breastfeeding.

Skin-to-skin contact with your newborn is a great first step in a family’s breastfeeding journey. The first hour after birth has been proven to be an important time to hold your baby and has many benefits including:

  • Stabilization of baby’s temperature, blood sugar, heart rate, breathing, and oxygen levels
  • Promotes parent/newborn attachment and confidence in parenting
  • Encourages early infant breastfeeding, weight gain and infant development
  • Increased breastmilk production
  • Promotes periods of alertness as well as periods of sleep

Celebrate a baby in your life

Celebrate a baby in your life

Celebrate your baby’s arrival by naming a star on our Sky of Stars Baby Wall in the Maternal Child Unit at OTMH. For a donation of $350 or more, you can honour this special moment with a personalized star featuring your baby’s name and birth date, shining brightly for all to see. It’s a meaningful way to commemorate their new beginning and create a lasting memory in a place dedicated to their care.
