How Laurent Wants To Be Remembered

Laurent grew up in a small town in Northern Ontario, where everybody knew everybody and neighbours looked after each other. When a family lost their home to a fire, the community found a way to help.
That experience shaped how he sees the world. It’s why he has spent more than thirty years supporting his local hospital, and why he is making sure that support continues for generations to come.
Laurent moved to Halton in 1975 with his young family and got involved with the hospital right away. He helped create its foundation, later served as its chair, and spent ten years on the Halton Healthcare board.
Over the years, friends and neighbours have shared their own hospital stories with him. One thread ran through all of them: the staff made them feel looked after. For Laurent, that is what a community hospital is all about.
He also knows a hospital is a community effort. The care we count on exists because neighbours, friends, and families choose to step up. He believes every generation has a chance to do its part.
During one of the foundation’s major campaigns, Laurent saw what a single gift can do. A longtime local donor committed $1 million. That gift set the bar high and encouraged others to stretch further than they might have. The community went on to raise millions more.
Laurent never forgot it. He admired that donor, and the idea of being remembered that way stayed with him.
So Laurent has included a gift to the hospital in his Will. Like most people, he has thought about how he’d like to be remembered. For him, it comes down to being seen as someone who contributed to his community.
He hopes his gift will do for others what that lead gift did for him: get them thinking about what they can help make possible for generations to come. Whatever your means, he believes everyone has a part to play, and a gift in your Will is a meaningful way to make it last.
If we want good health care, we have to step up and make it happen.
Here in your community, that hospital is Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, and the care it provides is here because people in our community choose to step up.
Already included the hospital in your Will, or thinking about a future gift?
We’d love to hear from you.
